Grand Makmur Hotel

The room was cute and clean, the bathroom was spotless, and I liked the hot water and shower. The bed was comfortable too, and the receptionists were helpful. I only stayed one night, and the place seems to have potential, but several things need work. The food was disappointing. I ordered oxtail soup expecting tender meat, but it was tough and wouldn't come off the bones. The carrot was undercooked, and the broth tasted like instant seasoning, without the rich fat I expected. There was also no mini fridge for cold drinks. Getting help with luggage was another issue. No one offered when I first arrived, even though I was struggling. At checkout I had to ask someone to open the door while I managed my bags. In hospitality, staff should notice when a guest needs a hand, and I hope they get better training. There was no room service menu in my room either. I called reception and was told they'd bring one if I wanted to order. That seemed like a waste of time. A barcode in each room would be an easy alternative if they don't want to print menus. I've stayed at plenty of 3-5 star hotels, so that's where I'm coming from. I hope to see this place improve. Good luck.

After traveling around Indonesia, starting in Java, then Bali, and now Sumatra, I can honestly say this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at here. I've spent much of my life in hotels, and this one stood out for its very clean rooms, excellent breakfast, and caring, helpful staff. I'm glad I chose it. I spent 3 nights at Grand Makmur Hotel and would happily come back when I'm next in Jambi. It was comfortable, and the price felt reasonable for what was provided. Every staff member I met was warm and welcoming, from security and housekeeping to the restaurant team and receptionist. I was especially touched that the receptionist remembered my name. 😄 Parking is limited and could be tricky in peak season, though security staff are always ready to help.
