Manuver Surf and Stay Uluwatu Bali

I’m asthmatic and sensitive to mold, and this room made me unwell. It was dirty, the walls were covered in mold, and I could smell it as soon as I walked in. My throat started itching, and when I checked the pillows, they were full of mold too. We asked to switch rooms, but none were available that night, so we asked for different pillows instead. The pillows they brought were moldy as well, and we had to find another homestay that night. When we left, the staff only said sorry, as if it wasn’t a hazard, and they didn’t compensate us.

We hardly saw any other guests during our week here, which added to the peaceful, quiet feel. The AC worked really well, and the beds and towels were spotless and smelled great. They’d change them if we asked. At first there was no kettle, but the staff brought one with coffee and refilled it whenever they cleaned the room. They also let us rent a bike for 100 a day, heated our microwave meals, and kept food cold for us overnight when we needed it. The pool looked great, though we didn’t use it much because of an accident. Other guests were enjoying it. We did notice garbage being burned nearby twice during the day, but we were usually out. The geckos can get surprisingly loud at night, so bring earplugs if noise bothers you. We were very happy with our stay, give it five out of five, and would gladly come back.

The staff were friendly and breakfast was good. The pool was nice too, and the location worked well. But for the price, the cleaning could have been better. We stayed two nights and neither the room nor bathroom was cleaned, and they didn’t change the sheets or towels.

The photos were misleading. Room 3 had an intense amount of mold on the walls, bed frame and side tables, and the damp, dense air irritated my throat as soon as I went in. I was surprised they put us there when the place seemed so empty. Staff moved us to Room 1, which was significantly better, but still not somewhere I’d want to stay for more than one night. I honestly wouldn’t recommend staying here if you can avoid it. There are many better choices in the same price range. This place has potential, but needs mold removal and renovation.
