Cempaka Mas Hotel

We left after just one night. For a VIP room, I expected better. The whole room felt old, the cupboards were covered in dark marks, and there were brown stains in the shower. The warm water barely worked, then there was no water at all in the morning. The toilet took 10-15 minutes before it could be flushed again, and the towels had lots of brown stains. The bed was huge, but the blanket was much too small for it. Breakfast was okay, though there wasn’t much variety. There were a few kinds of rice, some curry and chicken, toast with marmalade or chocolate, fruit, water or lemon juice, plus coffee and hot tea. The food tasted quite good.

One of Jombang’s better hotels, I’d say. Even the standard room is roomy, the pool is long enough for a swim, and the restaurant feels fancy. The outside is very clean too.

The food is sooo good, and I love the spacious bedroom. We stayed in the VIP, an upstairs room measuring 10m by 10m. The wooden chairs and table are a wonder, and I loved the Chinese ceramics and old mansion feel. They’re building a massive swimming pool. The shower and AC need maintenance, there’s no lift, and the security guards are rude. You have to ask for the Wi-Fi password because it isn’t written anywhere. It’s not a five-star place, but I like it and will come back.

Our group booked five rooms for two days. The homestay still feels new, and the rooms were clean. There are a few living rooms and a dining area for guests, plus good free Wi-Fi. When one room’s AC stopped working at midnight, the staff quickly offered us another room. They were helpful throughout. I’d have liked more breakfast choices, but it was a good stay for the price.
