The villa and pool look gorgeous, but our four-day stay was a huge disappointment and seemed to get worse each day. The private pool was a welcome break from the heat, though it wasn’t cleaned daily. Inside, the all-wood room had so many gaps that the AC barely worked. It became almost impossible to stay there during the day, and with no extra fan or other help, sleeping in the heat was miserable. The ceilings were high, and there were no proper curtains, so on the rare chance I got to sleep, the sunrise woke me. Electricity was rationed, with a set allowance and extra charges if you went over. That might suit sustainable travel, but it was frustrating alongside the design problems. Service was almost absent. We only got 1L of drinking water at check-in; they ignored our request for more. We got no help or communication about food options, and the floating breakfast they’d said they would provide was canceled. The walk from the road to the villa is quite long, which was a hassle with luggage or the several bottles of water we had to carry because none was supplied. Rooms aren’t cleaned unless you ask. There were ants everywhere, including on the bed and in our bags. Ants, mosquitoes, geckos, spiders, and frogs are understandable in a garden setting, but this many ants was a nightmare. I don’t know if it had to do with the wood used for the bed. The flat wooden washbasin was cracked and kept leaking from the sides, which was disgusting when brushing my teeth and trying not to get water on my feet. Scooter hire also cost more than usual. The villa itself and the pool are beautiful, but the useless AC, ants, poor service, leaking basin, and lack of proper curtains made this a holiday experience I wouldn’t want to repeat.

The owners were such a sweet, friendly family that they made our stay unforgettable. They told us about the area, Balinese customs, and their family, invited us to one of their children’s ceremonies, and shared a meal and a delicious homemade coconut drink (alcohol) with me. Thanks to them for that. Our wooden villa felt like a nature cottage. It was a clean, spacious room with a comfortable bed, wardrobe, desk, AC, ceiling fan, and good Wi-Fi. Water and coffee were replenished daily. There’s a semi-outdoor bathroom, private pool with lounge chairs, a sheltered garden for privacy, and a covered terrace. It’s wonderfully peaceful, and waking up there was a bliss. With the motorbike rented at the villa, we could get to Ubud center in 15-20 minutes. P.S. It’s better to book directly with the family than through a platform.

Widi, Gus Man, and their family were so helpful and accommodating throughout my wonderful stay at Sarini Villas. It’s a great choice if you want a private, peaceful spot in a local village away from the bustle of Ubud centre. The bed is big and comfortable, the bathroom is fantastic, and the Wi-Fi works well. They make you feel like family. I can’t recommend it enough, and I’ll be back. Thank you, Widi and Gus Man.

We only managed two nights at Sarini Villa because we had to get back to work, which was a shame. It’s such a lovely place, and everyone there was warm, helpful, and wonderful. The villa was clean and comfortable. If you’re after a different kind of stay, this is worth booking. We’ll definitely return for another weekend in Gianyar. Glad we found this hidden gem.

Sarini Villas is in peaceful Kemenuh village, about 15 minutes by car from Ubud. The village has waterfalls, art workshops, restaurants, and coffee shops to visit. Staying here gave me a chance to get closer to Balinese culture and learn more about local people, away from Bali’s busy commercial tourist areas and their everyday hassles. Cleanliness matters a lot to me, and my room was always tidy with a comfortable bed. The villas also have a beautiful private pool, a distinctive advantage compared with other villas and hotels in the area. What made the stay especially memorable was the kindness and hospitality of the Gus Angga family. Gus Angga’s father was always kind and gave me helpful advice and tips for planning my time and seeing more around Ubud. Gus Angga was an excellent day-to-day manager, always focused on giving guests the best service. I’ll never forget this wonderful family’s kindness and had an unforgettable stay. Special thanks to my friend and the best Bali tourist guide Putu, Cafe Ubud- IB Ketut Perama Teja, my taxi driver Yogi, my good friend Widi, and the whole Gus Angga family. I’ll absolutely choose this place again when I’m back in Bali.
