The Salila Beach Resort

The staff were wonderful at checkout, and I want to commend them. They were hospitable and understanding when I raised my concerns, and I actually felt bad that they had to apologize for the hotel. I moved my husband and me to another hotel for the remaining five nights of the six-night stay I’d booked for his birthday. We were in room 109. It was windy, and the door to the pool area rattled overnight. The people in the unit above us were extremely loud walking around late at night and early in the morning, though that part wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The bed was so uncomfortable that we both woke up sore and tired. The shower water was cold to lukewarm at night and in the morning, and it pooled in the tub instead of draining away. The safe was only partly secured inside the cupboard. The room phone had marks that looked like old food. When we arrived in the rain, I slipped at the door because there was nothing to wipe our feet or shoes on. There were tea-making facilities but no spoons or any cutlery, so I had to ask for something to use. I found the dirty old list of charges for damage or loss offensive when the room didn’t even have cutlery to start with. The buffet breakfast was cold to warm and uninviting. The pool and facilities were okay during our four-night stay, and the staff were kind and very nice. But the hotel and bedrooms need more maintenance, especially the bathroom showers. They moved us to another room because of the problem, but even that superior room had the same issues: a rusty, dirty bathtub and no hot water. We’d stayed here before, but this will be our last time. We feel sad and disappointed.

The pool was nice, the staff were friendly, and both breakfast and the restaurant food were good. The hotel is well located near restaurants and offers good value, though the weekend bass from beach clubs and restaurants can be loud until 11 pm. On New Year’s Eve, fireworks from the beach went on constantly from 10 pm to 2 am, so I wouldn’t recommend staying then if you want quiet. That noise wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but they didn’t reply to my email asking to move farther from the beach after the first night. Coffee, tea, and hand towels also weren’t consistently provided in the rooms.

The friendly staff made everything easy, and we loved the atmosphere. It’s a private-feeling spot just off the main strips, with a lovely pool and beautiful service. Great location close to the beach. I’d recommend it to families, solo travelers, and couples.
