Villa Burung in Kashantee Village

We’d come back to stay here. It’s centrally located near the beach, with good food and entertainment options around, and you don’t hear Bali boozy or the traffic from the resort, even though Bali boozy has great food and can get noisy late. The private pool was nice, and there’s also a swim-up bar at the other pool. We stayed in Villa Beo, a private villa within the resort, with good facilities and the basics covered, including a handy washing machine. The rooms were clean and fairly well equipped, and the kitchen had good facilities. It was nice that the staff did the dishes, but the water only heated to about 36°C, which isn’t hot enough to kill germs and properly clean them. The restaurant food was lovely and the staff were friendly. It would’ve been better to get an individual menu each and have everyone’s food arrive together. Our group had six people, and sometimes the first person finished eating before the last one was served. It seems common around Bali, but serving meals at the same time would make things more enjoyable. A few small improvements like these would be nice.

The food was pretty good and the hotel looked beautiful, but the service and upkeep need a lot of work. The whole stay was frustrating. At checkout they gave me an incorrect bill again, just as they had on arrival, when they also claimed my daughter’s breakfast wasn’t included even though I’d paid for it. They don’t allow early check-in. The room was ready two hours earlier, but the receptionist still kept me waiting in the hot reception on a very hot day. The air conditioning in my room didn’t work, and the room was hot and humid. There were mosquitoes everywhere. They did provide a net, and part of the service was spraying the linen with some kind of repellent that lasted 24 hours. The next day, room service broke my door. I barely slept that night, worrying someone could open it. I’m not even sure they did any room service: they changed no towels and cleaned none of the rooms. The street is very congested, and Gojek bike was the only way to get to any kid-friendly places.

The pool area looked abandoned, with rough edges and broken tiles that could cut you if you went in. The sunbeds were dirty and sticky, and I wasn’t sure I’d want to sit on them. When we raised concerns, we got empty apologies. We left early after the manager said we’d get a refund. He seemed polite then, but never followed through. It’s been two months and he’s stopped responding. Extremely unprofessional and dishonest. Our stay kept getting worse after we arrived. The staff seemed cold and unwelcoming, though we tried to put that aside and enjoy our holiday. The room was moldy-smelling, dirty, outdated, and poorly maintained. The sheets were visibly stained and yellowish, even after we asked for a change. The bathroom was dirty and constantly smelled humid. The toilet barely flushed, taking minutes and then making loud water noises for hours. Electrical sockets worked only sometimes. The worn, discolored towels had blood on them and certainly didn’t look freshly washed. The door didn’t lock properly, so anyone could have walked in. It felt completely unsafe. I’d avoid this place entirely. In my experience it was unsafe, unhygienic, poorly managed, and the staff lied. Mold, dirty facilities, unreliable service, and empty apologies made this one of the worst stays I’ve had.

The room was spacious, and the place turned out better than I expected. We stayed three nights, and everything went to plan. The pool is a good size, with a bar in it, and the breakfast was good too. It’s well located, and the staff were kind. The one downside was our bungalow being right beside a house that isn’t part of kashantee village. Music carried on there until almost sunrise on two nights in a row.
