Villa Kenari Montrose

This was the most disappointing stay of our month in Bali, and also the most expensive private accommodation we booked. The booking process and communication beforehand went perfectly, and the man who showed us around and handed over the keys was welcoming. But once we settled in and looked more closely over the following days, it was clear the villa and its services were poorly maintained. I took photos of several things that bothered me on our last day. The entrance path light didn’t turn on automatically at dusk as we’d been told, so some of our nighttime arrivals were in the dark. Tiles had fallen off the entrance columns, and an old bicycle inside had flat tires and couldn’t be used. Each morning there was what looked like rat or gecko droppings on the dining table and floor, perhaps from animals in the ceiling above the living area. There were visible damp marks low on the bedroom walls, and signs of rain leaks on the ceilings of the two rooms on the left. We didn’t use the third bedroom on the right. Other problems added up: the plastic toilet seat was grey instead of white and looked unsafe; large white stones covered the shower floors and made showering difficult unless you fancied a foot massage. The pool motor was somewhat noisy, the gazebo had no shade covering, and the grass beneath the loungers was scorched. Kitchen items were old, dirty, and poorly cared for. There were hundreds of illegal movie copies under the TV. In the little room beside the second bedroom, where the pool pump is, water was leaking and spare towels and sheets had been left carelessly on the floor. For a villa rented at this price, the upkeep should be much better. I’m sorry, but the stay was a real letdown.
