Batur Sunrise Guesthouse

It’s near Batur lake, but three stray dogs are always around the entrance and disturb guests. The property is very old and poorly maintained. Choose this place if you want to sleep with spiders, mosquitoes, frogs, and house flies around. Breakfast is supposed to be from 8 to 9, but they take your order at 8:00 am and it arrives at 9:00 am. Install google translate before you come because the staff barely understand English. Nobody answers the phone either.

The garden is lovely, and the staff are wonderful: friendly, eager, hardworking, and ready to help with anything you ask. If you can, get a top-floor room. They feel private and have balconies with stunning views over Lake Batur. I’d avoid the Bungalows. They look nice, but they’re less private, and a locked wooden door connects each one to the neighboring unit. Sound travels easily through it, so you can hear almost every word. It’s not peaceful if you have noisy children next door. That’s why I’m giving 3 stars: 5 for a top-floor room, 1 for a bungalow.

I wish I could have stayed longer. The owners were so welcoming and helpful with arranging trips, and my room was much better than I expected for what I paid. I was in a level 1 room with a double balcony, looking toward the lake on one side and Mt Batur on the other. It was a great spot for sunrise yoga. The gardens are beautiful, with nice tables for sitting around and a fire pit for chilly evenings. There was a good hot shower, filtered water, tea and coffee in the room, a nice breakfast, and a super-comfy bed. Best of all, after the sunrise trek I had the private hot spring pool all to myself. Such a lovely place for a few days. I’d definitely come back. Thank you Batur Sunrise Guesthouse🙏🏻

We had a good stay at Batur Sunrise Guesthouse. It’s a cute property close to the lake and Mount Batur, and there’s a hot spring pool on site. The rooms were tidy and clean, though the bathroom could have been cleaner. There’s a hot and cold water distributor in the room. We were there during planting season in Dec 2023, and the flies were everywhere and really disturbing. We got some relief after rain and while in the pool, but otherwise it was a constant battle. That’s just how it was then, and not the homestay’s fault. The owners are still fixing up the place and working toward their goal. There’s a nice book in the room explaining the project, which we thought was a nice touch.
