Pinggan Skyline

The setting is beautiful, with incredible views across the valley toward the volcano and lake. It's a remote area, though, and the winding drive to the larger town with restaurants and hot springs takes about 30 minutes. Millions of black flies are everywhere in the region. That's not the resort's fault, but they do make it less enjoyable. Breakfast was just okay, Indonesian noodles and rice, and was sometimes left uncovered among all those flies, which was unappetizing. The pool is lovely, but this is a cool, high-altitude area. Heated pools would be nice, and I'd have happily paid extra for a room with one. I was also disappointed by the $400k charge for swing photos. I get charging for them, but we were staying multiple nights and already paying a premium for the room, so $400k felt high. Another unusual thing: they knock loudly to wake guests for breakfast at 7am, though people usually just come down between 7-10am. Maybe ask for “no knock breakfast” if you stay here. Otherwise, it's a five-star spot in a less touristic part of Bali.
