This is my third year in a row staying here. The room layout is easy to use and made for a comfortable stay. Staff are especially kind and hardworking: they clean thoroughly every day and change the sheets, so everything stays fresh. The rooms are a little old, but well kept and clean. It’s a residence-style lodging within Aston Kuta Hotel, so some facilities are shared with Aston. I didn’t use the shared pool or gym because they seemed poorly maintained. Breakfast is at Aston Hotel’s restaurant and costs IDR 180,000 per person, or IDR 360,000 for two. That feels absurdly expensive next to Aston Hotel’s standard room rate of IDR 822,821 Agoda with breakfast included. We ate at a nearby hotel instead for IDR 75,000 per person, and it was excellent. Those issues are with Aston Hotel, though; judging this apartment on its own, I’m very positive. One annoyance that’s persisted over the years is the bathroom shower faucet. Its position and design make showering uncomfortable. A standard handheld showerhead would make a big difference. Apart from that, I have no complaints.

The room and location were great, but the cost for a family of five wasn’t cheap at all. We had to buy breakfast ourselves at $80 per day, and the 9 days came to $2,000, which works out to over $300 per day. Look around for better value. You can stay at a resort in Bali for $300 a day, and Discovery is only $140 per night with luxury, free breakfast, and half price meals. The pool water was hot and unpleasant to swim in, and rats in the roof kept us awake at night. I was also made to clean another person’s vomit off a balcony in the heat, or we’d be charged. It took me an hour. It was obviously there the whole time. The cleaners were below standard and didn’t speak or read English. My young grandchildren weren’t sick, and we hadn’t even known there was a balcony there.

The suite’s private pool was lovely and relaxing, and there’s a large shared hotel pool as well. Our room had a great ocean view, and the staff were nice. It’s a central spot near lots of food and shopping, which helps with typical Bali traffic. The morning buffet offered a good range of choices. For a family, the room with a pool is perfect and really good value.
