We booked a week as a trial, hoping we might stay for a few months, but left after only three hours. AirBnb helped us get a refund, though having to find somewhere else at the last minute completely disrupted our trip. The building is beautiful, and the lawn area is nice. I’m sure it was gorgeous in the past, but it’s now very run down and poorly maintained. The pillows had black mold stains visible through the cases, the mattresses were awful, and the oven and microwave were moldy. Glasses, the fridge, and pots were dirty. Other things were broken, stained, or rusty, with holes in the walls, damaged surfaces, and light bulbs hanging down. We aren’t that picky, but the more we looked, the more horrified we got. This wasn’t a last-minute booking, so there was time to prepare for us. When we sent photos of the problems, the on-site Co-host completely ghosted us. The main host told us she had taken the beautiful pictures only 3 months earlier, but much of the damage clearly didn’t happen in just the past 3 months. The house needs a full renovation. Don’t trust the current Airbnb photos. It’s still listed there, and it doesn’t look like the Host is going to fix anything. If you’re already in Bali, I’d suggest visiting before booking to check whether they’ve renovated or upgraded things.

The staff made a huge difference to our stay at Villa Bidadari. Yuni, the villa manager, was a brilliant organizer, chef, and baker. We had many food restrictions, and she made healthy, tasty meals for everyone. Even when our group was smaller, eating in cost less than going to the cheapest restaurants, though Warung food can still be cheaper and doesn’t always suit a mixed group. Breakfast was included, hearty, and healthy. The cooking staff shared recipes and even sent a friend home with spice mixes. Edy, our driver, was friendly, prompt, and happy to work beyond his scheduled hours. The grounds were kept up, rooms tidied regularly, and laundry was available at a very reasonable price. Our wedding was handled in a way we couldn’t have imagined. We told Margaret what we had in mind, and she made it happen under budget and below our price point, with impressive detail and very little work from us. We hadn’t expected a wedding planner, which would have cost a lot elsewhere, but it was included. The plan was checked in fine detail so everything would run as intended. Margaret also arranged several places for prewedding photos. We hadn’t asked for an elaborate event, yet the decorations and thoughtfulness looked like they’d taken weeks of planning. The food was excellent, especially the ribs, which were the best we’ve ever had. There was an astonishing amount for our budget, and Yuni even mastered a complicated cheesecake for us. The villa negotiated with the banjar on our behalf to reduce fees and sort out arrangements, so the bureaucratic hassle that’s usually hard to avoid when planning a Bali wedding wasn’t an issue for us. The wedding exceeded our expectations in every way. Huge thanks to all the staff. We were there for a week with friends and family, joining me and my husband. The villas are open air and gorgeous, with plenty of places to gather and space for privacy. They’re surrounded by lush plants, set a little away from Bali’s traffic and horns, and gave us both easy access to the excitement and a peaceful spot to hear the ocean. Air conditioning was available, but the design made the most of the ocean breezes, so we hardly needed it. Photos don’t quite do the place justice. We loved the upstairs bathrooms with baths that could comfortably fit two or three people, the top floor plunge pools overlooking each villa’s gardens, and the main pool for relaxing or morning planning. There are ocean views, sprawling grounds, and a lily pad path with stepping stones and swimming fish. The area is fairly quiet. We walked to the cliff to look at Pandawa beach, then took a small path down to a secluded beach just off Pandawa. Getting down was a hike rather than a stroll, but well worth the effort.

It’s a lovely place for a getaway, and the staff are very friendly. It works well for groups, though it’s a bit far from shops and tourist areas. The Garmin pin drop for kabuputten is wrong, so we went to the Nusa Dua one.

We stayed for a week and loved it. The villa was freshly renovated and comfortable, the staff were friendly, and I cooked for myself. No problems at all!

A stunning villa, and the staff were incredibly nice. I wouldn’t change a thing.
