Bong Hostel

The staff were welcoming and kind, and breakfast was okay. The place also looks great, but our stay at Bong was a disappointment. The facilities need maintenance: the showers had weak pressure and only cold water. I know cold showers are common on the island, but at this price I expected better. The hostel is far from the “city” centre, at the top of a very steep hill, so it won’t suit you if you’re not comfortable riding a scooter. On our first night, the bunk bed had bedbugs. I woke up bitten several times and initially thought they were mosquitoes. In the morning, I found dead bugs, blood stains from them feeding on me, and a couple of live ones. It was a shock. A staff member kindly arranged laundry for my things, which felt necessary after the bedbugs, but at checkout they tried to charge me for it. We had booked five nights and asked to cancel so we could leave, but management never gave us a real answer, and even the staff couldn’t reach them. In the end, the staff member refunded the night with bedbugs out of his own pocket because the manager never replied. We couldn’t get the rest of our money back, so we had to stay. We then moved to the private room we’d booked in advance, but it was extremely humid, smelled like a swamp, and looked dirty. The hostel is visually appealing and the staff were always smiling and willing to help, but the management, upkeep, and cleaning were lacking.

It was quiet and laid-back here, which seemed to work well for all the guests. Great staff, a great view, and a top location. I loved my time at this hostel. 10/10, and I’ll be back soon 😁

The dorms were spacious, beautifully designed, and the most comfortable I’ve stayed in. I loved waking up to music on the terrace and having banana pancakes for breakfast. Even brushing my teeth came with a stunning sea view. BONG Hostel sits among nature, with views that amazed me every day. The staff were warm, kind, and always ready to help, whether arranging activities or making me feel at home. I fell in love with the place and can’t wait to return. It’s a relaxing, welcoming stay, and I highly recommend it. Maroussia

What began as a straightforward problem turned into a frustrating experience with a manager who didn’t seem to care. We’d booked five nights to enjoy our last days in the country, then found bedbugs that morning. I understand this can happen in hostels, so we asked to cancel and move somewhere else. We spent the whole day messaging management, and one of the workers also tried to reach him, without success. After waiting all day for a response, I’m leaving this review.
