Kailash Garden Homestay

Nusi and her husband, the owners, were so kind and always reachable by phone. They made us feel at home. The hotel is just a five-minute walk from Jungutbatu Harbour, with clean rooms and AC that worked properly. The pool was well maintained and available anytime. Some people mention the exterior, but inside it’s very well cared for, especially for a budget-friendly place. Good value and a lovely stay.

The owners have let the property fall into disrepair and seemed not to care about the welfare of paying guests. We saw many guests sitting in the heat for over an hour waiting for someone to check them in. Their rooms weren’t ready at the required check-in time, and they were told to “just wait” longer while the rooms were cleaned. Lots of people looked disappointed and were taking pictures of the run-down place. The rooms had mold and damp on the walls, and mold on the pillows. We asked for fresh pillows, but those were moldy too. The shower and fittings were covered in limescale, sockets didn’t work, and Wi-Fi didn’t reach the bedrooms. We had to ask for toilet paper and towels: one roll for nine nights wasn’t enough. We asked to change rooms and found no hand soap there either, with mold on the walls again. Staff were never available, and we couldn’t call the number they left. The pool needed cleaning, with dead insects floating in it, and the amenities around it were broken. The shower pressure was terrible and hot water was infrequent. Don’t believe the pictures. This place is extremely rundown. I would not recommend staying here.

We arrived to find there was no record of our paid, confirmed reservation for seven rooms, booked well in advance for a group of divers traveling from abroad. There were no rooms for us. Nobody had warned us, and we were left at the door without a solution, an alternative, or even a proper apology. In high season, I had to find somewhere for the whole group at the last minute. A complete nightmare. The customer service was terrible, careless, unprofessional, and totally irresponsible. They caused us huge problems, and we’re still waiting for any kind of compensation. I’ve never had anything like this happen while traveling, especially with a paid reservation. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, stay far away.

We stayed five days. The drinks on site were reasonably priced, and if all you need is a cheap room because you’ll be out all day, it could work. But be aware, it’s not great. The bed itself was alright, while the walls were stained and the showers were grim. The place is down a long, dark side street. Wi-Fi was nonexistent, so this won’t suit you if you need internet. You get what you pay for.
