Puri Nusa Beach Hotel

From our room we could watch Shipwrecks and some lovely sunsets, with cafés and restaurants all around. The location is spot on, and the surf school next door rents SUPs and boards at fair prices. We moved into a renovated room with a pool and ocean view, and it was spacious and comfy, with a huge king-sized bed. Some rooms are still older, though you can see the hotel upgrading them bit by bit. There were plenty of tasty options at the restaurant, and the service was super friendly, thanks Karl! Great value, and we'd happily return. The only hitch was the Wi-Fi dropping a few times, so check on that if you're planning to work remotely.

The one clear plus for me was the beachfront location. The rest left me hoping the hotel will improve before I ever consider coming back. It feels dated but is still sort of functional. My room, no. 102, had a bed with a broken base that kept my body from lying flat, and I had sleepless nights. The pool was murky and dirty, and when I checked in the rubbish bins hadn't been emptied. There were broken hangers, toilet doors without handles, and a mosquito infestation. I also wondered whether the bedsheets had really been changed. The place looked family-run, though I'm not sure, but there wasn't much warmth or personal attention. No mineral water was supplied, and there was no water heater, though some old toiletries were there and the aircon worked fine. The facilities feel neglected for a long time. For rooms like these, I don't think the price should be more than IDR200,000 rupiah, but they're charging 50% higher or more. I hope they make improvements in future.

The beach is really rocky, so swimming there isn't pleasant. It would also be good to have refillable drinking water in every room to cut down on plastic bottles and garbage, and some soap in the bathroom. Thanks.
