The Well House

The peaceful setting and kind staff made our stay lovely. The villas are beautifully designed, and Mushroom Beach is close by. We’d happily come back and recommend it.

Well House was my favourite stay in Bali! The pool area is roomy and peaceful, and the accommodation itself is beautiful, with a beachy, minimal look to the rooms. My partner and I had a wonderful time, and Mushroom beach is just a one minute walk away. The staff were always ready to help with taxis, boat trips, and recommendations. We went snorkelling and swam with turtles and manta-rays, something I won’t forget. Putu deserves a special mention for being so kind and helpful. The WiFi didn’t work in our room and was weak around the area, unfortunately. Still, I really hope I get to visit again.

The pool was nice and the air conditioning worked well, but our stay was so difficult that we left after three nights instead of the week we’d booked. The room fell far short of what I’d expect from a 3* hotel costing close to $50 a night. It wasn’t properly cleaned on arrival, the outdoor bathroom was in appalling condition, and water from both the taps and shower smelled of iron. I suspect rust in the pipes, and the photos show what the bathroom looked like. We’d chosen the place partly because of its good reviews and its closeness to mushroom beach, but our experience didn’t match that. The door wouldn’t close properly, so warm air and mosquitoes came in. A net around the bed kept them out of it, at least. Our room wasn’t cleaned at all during the three days, even though we were away for more than six hours on some days. It also wasn’t quiet. Chickens started up around 4am, monkeys ran across the roof at night, and dogs barked for hours. One night they went nonstop from midnight to 2am. The location is very convenient, about a two minute walk from the boat and close to mushroom beach. That’s the only reason I haven’t rated it one star. If you can afford it, choose a pricier place rated at least 4*. I think you’ll regret staying here.

We booked five days but left after two. The place feels run down, and the service, rooms, and cleanliness were all pretty terrible. Our sheets were dirty, and nobody cleaned the room while we were there. The bathroom had nowhere to hang a towel or put soap, and the water was unpleasant, with poor pressure and changing temperatures. Staff were unfriendly and unwilling to help. The location is amazing and the price is good. Still, I’d avoid staying here. Check recent reviews when deciding, not just the overall average.
