My Studio Hotel Losari Makassar

The pods were very clean and welcoming, and I liked the pod setup. The bathroom was another story. Bugs were all over it, it smelled like urine, and the toilet cleaning I saw involved spraying and wiping only the floor right in front of the toilet. The rest of the shared bathroom and showers weren’t cleaned. By Indonesian standards there are worse places, but anyone sensitive to this stuff may find it hard to handle. Housekeeping felt really lazy. The lockers didn’t work. I only found that out after checking in and trying them. When I complained, I got a free breakfast, though I had to ask for it. I wouldn’t recommend paying 50K for breakfast: it was a piece of bread with chocolate frosting and a small waffle, both tasteless, and there are cheaper, better options outside. Service was hit or miss. I asked to have my bedsheets changed one day and it didn’t happen. I asked again the next day and they changed them. The staff were kind enough, but I felt I had to struggle to get things done. They also didn’t seem to know much about what to explore in the city. It’s affordable for backpackers, but if you’re hoping to meet other backpackers, you may be disappointed. There were no westerners during my visit, and the place didn’t feel welcoming for meeting other travelers. I gave it 2/5 because the bathrooms and shared areas were poorly maintained, and the service was so-so. It does have AC and a good location, and costs 100K per night. There was no hot water, shampoo, or body wash for the shower.

The dorm and bed were clean, and the AC worked properly. It’s cheap, and they still include breakfast. The bathroom gets dirty when there are lots of guests, but that didn’t bother me. The staff were kind and helpful. The map pin is wrong, so search for pod house in Maps. It’s next to Wedrink.

I booked four nights and had the whole room to myself for the first two. The pods are comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean with hot water. It’s a well located hostel with a reasonable price for a backpacker budget. I’d happily stay here again.

There weren’t many guests when I visited in February. Breakfast was different each day: one morning it was only bread, another it was rice and chicken and really good. The cafe/restaurant downstairs is a little pricey, but this was the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The capsules are really spacious and nice to sleep in. I’d book again when I come back to Makassar.
