Hotel Tugu Malang

We spent an hour and a half wandering through this artistic, zigzagging labyrinth, taking in the museum and all its history. The hotel began as the home of the granddaughter of a 19th-century Chinese sugar baron, an internationally renowned elegant lady, who turned it into a hotel shortly before her 100th birthday. We loved the restaurant and breakfast, and the kind, helpful, well-prepared staff. Thank you!

My three nights at Hotel Tugu were the best. Malang has everything, with its food, atmosphere, people, history, and sights, and this hotel feels like a perfect fit. It's a museum too, with facilities, service, and staff that are out of this world. A special thank you to Anita and Jon at the front desk, Anggi in Ban lam Shop Wine & Bar, Budi in the carpark area, and Indah in the salon for being kind, helpful, and full of tips. Thanks to everyone at Hotel Tugu. I hope to come back. Five stars doesn't do it justice, so if you need a hotel in Malang, look no further.

Breakfast had so many choices, all made to order, plus delicious fresh juices and smoothies. There was almost too much food, but I was the one who ordered too much. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is conveniently close to the train station. We also tried the spa massage and thought it was excellent, the best either of us has ever had. You get exactly what you order, so if you expect lots of pampering and extras, be aware of that. Western visitors might find the service a little brusque. Our one-hour massage lasted exactly an hour, and the price was very reasonable compared with other top-end hotels.

Danes, the front manager, made our stay memorable by arranging a surprise birthday cake for my partner. We also loved breakfast, especially the power breakfast bowl and fresh smoothies. Set in Malang's historic centre, the hotel has beautiful architecture, a great atmosphere, and so much attention to detail. A phenomenal, personal, and unique place to stay.
