Pondok Backpacker Hostel

A cozy, clean and cheap place, with really friendly staff and owner. They include free Wi-Fi, breakfast (Indonesian Noodle), and a free hot drink. I’d stay again next time.

Street food just outside was a big plus. I ate at the Tohu Telur-place three times, at 10 000IDR a plate, and there’s also a 25% discount on the already super cheap massage in the same building as the hostel. The staff are the friendliest I’ve found in a hostel in Indonesia. It’s a dream for a budget backpacker: cheap, comfortable beds and a very clean place. Dorm beds have curtains. Malang is chill, so you don’t need AC; the fan dorm is cheap, and they also offer Futon style beds for almost nothing. Five stars, no doubt!

Hungry late at night? Several stalls across the street sell soto lamongan for 11000rp a bowl, very, very delicious 😋, along with other food. There’s an Alfamart too, though it isn’t open 24 hours. The fan room stays cool enough since Malang is already cool. Rooms and bathrooms are really clean, hot showers are available, and lockers cost 10000rp. It’s good value for backpackers. I recommend booking the bunks online through their website, TripAdvisor, or another booking site to get a better deal.

The staff are friendly, and the location is near both the rail station and a hospital. There’s a minimart and warung across the road. The dorm room has only one fan for 10 beds and no ventilation. The shower and toilet are in the same room, so everything gets wet after a shower.
