Genio Hotel Manado

The staff were nice, and the bed was reasonably comfortable, so I’ve given it 2 stars. For a cheap place to sleep while you’re out all day, it did the job for us, but I wouldn’t choose it for a relaxing stay. Our room was very dark, with a window facing a wall, and both the room and washroom smelled strongly of damp. The pillow cover smelled awful too. Breakfast was poor: even plain eggs cost extra, and the fruit tasted rotten. I don’t understand how the overall rating is 4.2, unless we were just very unlucky with our room.

Clean rooms, good water temperature and pressure, and a helpful reception. There’s also an in-house restaurant and laundry service. It’s a fairly cheap hotel and good value for the money, within walking distance of Calaca harbour, a mosque, and a temple. I’ll definitely stay here again.

The room was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Their English was limited, but they made an effort, and a translation app helped. The chef was good, especially the amazing chicken satay. The menu is small, though I highly recommend the spaghetti bolognaise, one of the best I’ve tasted. Keep in mind there’s no flag-down taxi service, so you need to book through an app.

The free breakfast was awesome, one of the best I had during my 21 day stay in Indonesia. The place was clean and cozy, with air conditioning, a Western toilet, a hot shower with good pressure, and free WiFi in the rooms. It’s in a walkable neighborhood, close to a lot of things, and only a quick cab ride from the boats to Bunaken. I was very happy with my stay.
