I’ve stayed here many times since my first visit to Lombok in 2016. There wasn’t any accommodation back then, so I shared a room as a guest of the family. I came back while the rooms were being built, and now I stay in a private room at Bale Datu when I visit Lombok from Australia. It’s a very safe place with a friendly family, and a unique way to stay among the village. That’s what I like when I travel, more than bars, nightclubs, or western restaurants. You can hear the call to prayer from the local mosque, and see and hear little kids playing and laughing. Cows, chickens, and cats wander around, and there are lots of murals in the village. Why not try one yourself? 😁 You can ask the family about renting a motorbike, booking a car taxi, or washing and drying clothes. Coffee and tea are free in the mornings. Languages: English and Indonesian. A note for anyone booking: the family that runs Bale Datu Lombok does not control the listings on hotel booking sites. The pages have shown prices and deals that don’t match the actual price for a long time. The family has tried contacting those sites, but the problem hasn’t been fixed and is outside their control. Contact Bale Datu Lombok directly to book, or come in person to check into a room. You can pay at the hotel, so there’s no worry about where your money is going. If you’ve already booked through one of those sites, that can understandably be frustrating, but most booking sites will allow a refund for a cancelled booking. Please consider how this affects a family trying to run its business. It’s always better to contact the hotel directly, and that’s good practice for any place you stay during a holiday.
