The Wi-Fi was really bad, and the bathroom drainage was poor. I’d ordered a single bed, and checked that the booking did say single, but the evening male receptionist gave me a twin room and insisted I couldn’t change it. He seemed impatient and uninterested when I asked how to find my room. The hotel is large, and he didn’t explain the way clearly. Another person seemed ready to show me, but stopped helping when they saw the stairs and then didn’t want to walk, so I ended up having to study the hotel map myself.

We stayed nearly two weeks as a family, and it was our first choice in Mataram. It always felt pleasant and homey. The room is a little old, but it’s good value for money.

I was extremely disappointed. The bathroom had insects and cobwebs, the towels were grey, rough, and musty, and the slippers in the room had already been used by another guest. The wardrobe shelves and lamps were covered in dust. There was hair under the pillow on one of the beds, and they didn’t clean the room every day. I also tried the laundry service, but my clothes came back unwashed. They did refund me, though they seemed almost offended that they had to. Possibly one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

There are better places at this price. The room wasn’t very clean, and the bed sheets had lots of stains. My colleague and I both got sick while we were there. I suspect the extremely dirty air conditioning, which probably had mold on it, was the cause.

The Garden Hotel feels super chill, comfy, clean, and cozy. The AC kinda sucks at night, though. It gets hot because the cool air doesn’t really reach you. Everything else is good, and hopefully they’ll improve it soon.
