Same Hotel Lombok

We chose the property through Traveloka for our nonprofit retreat, booking six rooms for 11 people with breakfast for November 10-11, 2025. The incident there disrupted our program, affected the event’s atmosphere and flow, and caused us tangible and intangible losses. We checked out early at around 8:45 in the morning. We’d been holding quiet meetings by the pool and in the lobby with just laptops and papers. Since there were few guests, we met outdoors during daylight to save energy instead of sitting in separate rooms, and we took care not to disturb anyone. Then a staff member came up to us rudely, asking where we were from and whether we were students. They told our cofounder, “Sini ikut saya” (“Come with me”) in a disrespectful tone. We felt treated as if we weren’t paying guests, and our cofounder was insulted. We would have welcomed a polite reminder if we’d unknowingly done something wrong, but nobody gave us one. Instead, we were met with suspicion and disrespect, which is especially appalling from a hotel that should treat guests with courtesy and hospitality. We may not have been dressed formally that morning because the retreat was informal and it was early, but that shouldn’t have been a reason to look down on us or mistreat us as paying guests. Our local, nonprofit foundation works on social causes including preventing child marriage, education, and environmental protection. Our members are responsible and courteous, chosen for their integrity and professionalism. Some are university students, some have graduated, and many are experienced professionals. We ask management to look into what happened, improve hospitality training for staff, and apologize.

Meals at Same Hotel reminded me of home cooking, which I really enjoyed. At breakfast, the pool beside the restaurant’s outdoor seating meant we could keep an eye on the kids while they played. There are lots of sofas in the lobby, too. I also noticed a thoughtful detail in the meeting rooms: they provide pens, which I find more useful than the pencils other hotels usually put out. That was generous and helpful.

The staff were helpful and accommodating, and it was surprisingly quiet. The bathrooms need maintenance, though: taps leaked, the paint was peeling, and the drain covers were rusty. Even after cleaning, there was betel nut staining on the floors and walls, and the walls hadn’t been cleaned. We paid five-star rates for budget accommodation and booked a deluxe king, non-smoking room. The first room smelled of cigarettes, and the replacement had two single beds pushed together. My side sloped toward the middle, so I slept in the gap. We won’t be coming back.

It was really dirty and poorly kept. There’s also noise from the nearby mosque and construction. You could find a better place for half the price.
