E Hotel Medan

The room was large, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. I arrived around midnight with tired kids and lots of luggage, so I didn't push back when we were given a smoking room despite requesting non-smoking. The lobby was very hot, and they required a Rp 100.000 cash deposit. The exhaust fan was so loud it felt like trying to sleep outdoors. The room hadn't been cleaned properly: there was a bottle seal and a used beer can by an unplugged mini fridge. The floor was dirty, the AC didn't cool, and the bathroom was slippery, with a rusty shower head and a standing shower that was much too small for the room. Paying extra for a river view wasn't worth it. The river was dirty, and the room looked straight at buildings. There was no AC in the corridor, and dirty plates outside the next room were still there when I checked out the following day. At breakfast, guests were smoking in the restaurant. When I asked, the waiter said indoor smoking was allowed, even during breakfast. Unbelievable. The breakfast choice was poor, just two kinds of rice, one chicken dish, one vegetable, two sliced fruits, coffee and tea. There's no swimming pool, and using the spa in the adjacent building costs extra. I'm not coming back.
