Odua Golden Mansyur Hotel

It's in a great spot near campus and local restaurants, and there's a grocery store downstairs. For a Medan visit, it's definitely good value. The room gets three stars from me because the bathroom wasn't clean. The rest was okay.

I ended up cancelling my booking because their customer service couldn't manage a simple question. I booked through booking.com and asked whether there'd be a fridge where I could keep my medication. It wasn't complicated, but they didn't answer. Booking.com automatically sent the query to them again by email, and a few days later there was still no reply. I tried WhatsApp too. They read my message and, unsurprisingly, left it unanswered. If they can't answer a question before a stay, I can only wonder how they'd handle a problem while you were there.

Things were much better on our second night, but the first impression was rough. We had a road-facing room that was noisy, and sounds carried between rooms through the wooden partitions. The toilet smelled of urine, the bidet didn't work, and the shower pressure was low, which made our first night difficult. There was cigarette smell in both the corridor and the room. We complained that same night and asked to move. The management listened and acknowledged the problems, and by the next afternoon they moved us to a better room. The bidet worked there, the shower pressure was stronger, there was no urine smell, the cigarette smell was less, and it was quieter. We had a pleasant second night. The management service was good, the reception lobby smelled lovely, and they helped us with laundry when we needed it. I hope the facilities and room condition improve soon. The location and nearby places seem to give the hotel a lot of potential. Thank you.

For anyone doing business with USU, attending a graduation, teaching, or working on a long research stay, this would be my preferred budget hotel in the USU area. The rooms are clean, new, and comfortable. It's easy to get around from here, with many restaurants and food centers nearby. The price is relatively cheap, so it feels like good value.
