The rooms are roomy and really clean, each one styled like a modern Toraja traditional house. The hotel itself is fairly small, with an open-air pool by the hall and lovely hill views. Mornings feel peaceful here, and the grounds are nice for a jog or an easy walk in the fresh air. If you’re coming by bus from Makassar, you can ask to be dropped at the hotel, but arrange for staff to meet you at the gate since it’s a long way from the main road to the entrance. A quiet, refreshing stay.

It’s an older hotel, but still one of the popular places in Toraja and a good venue for ceremonies or other events. The pool could use some maintenance.

It was so quiet and gloomy that the hotel felt spooky and unwelcoming, even though the receptionist was friendly. My friends and I each had our own unsettling experience. I found hair in the bathtub, and there was blood on the floor. The room lighting added to the atmosphere: several lights didn’t work, and the ones that did were dim. I don’t blame the people behind the hotel, though. It was just the experience I had.

Rice fields surround the hotel, and it sits right beside a main road, which works well if you’re planning to stay in Tana Toraja. The design is distinctly Tongkonan, down to the Toraja-themed key chains. For a 3-star hotel, the service is average.
