Maleo Moyo Seaside Resort

The diving was the highlight, and once we got in the water I had no complaints. Moyo has amazing dive sites, with loads of fish and healthy coral. We had the big boat to ourselves, just the two of us, at the end of November, and got private treatment without paying a private price. Anton was a great divemaster and instructor. My partner took the advanced course and thought it was excellent, and much cheaper than at other places in Indonesia. We only came for three days of diving, not an overnight stay. The food costs a bit more than at local places on the island, but it’s very good, especially the gado gado. One thing that could be better: at first it felt a little disorganized. We’d have liked an introduction with a site map and an explanation of the usual dive plans and destinations. I think that would help them a lot.

The harbor was only a five minute walk away, and it was easy to get to the beach for sunset. I had a great stay on Moyo Island, with a spacious room and a pretty semi-outdoor shower. The food was good and reasonably priced, and the diving instructors were great. Everything from the room to the dive trip was superb.

We would have stayed longer if we could. After travelling for three years, including more than a year and a half in Asia, Maleo Moyo stands out for its quality and value. The diving was excellent, and the team were so professional that we felt very comfortable with them. The restaurant food was excellent too, at a good price. Our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and clean, quiet, efficient air conditioning. The bathroom was perfect, with a hot shower. The pool was a bonus, though a little chilly, and there were lots of sun loungers and room to relax. There was nothing wrong with the accommodation. Thanks for having us, we’ll definitely come back.

The island and resort were peaceful, and the common areas had a lovely atmosphere. Staff were extremely kind and attentive, and we felt so welcome that we extended our stay twice. There’s a large pool, though it was too cold for us; it would be good for practicing dive skills. The house reef just outside was great for snorkeling, and the reefs and dive sites around the island were beautiful and full of life. We did our open water course with Evert and Anton. They helped us feel safe, worked around our schedule, and listened to our needs and concerns. We also went on a couple of fun dives after the course, which were fantastic. Evert seemed a bit distant at first, but as we got to know him, we found him kind-hearted and attentive. Our budget room was basic but clean and had what we needed, with a shared bathroom. The walls were the one real drawback: they’re paper thin, so you can literally hear people breathing in the other rooms.
