Surya Maha Bungallo

Cheap, but a bad stay for us. We felt very much like we were being taken advantage of because we're “white western people.” The owner kept changing the price for rides to town, so I didn't find him trustworthy. Breakfast was bad too. I'd had really good Balinese coffee elsewhere, but the coffee here was undrinkable. I'd pay 100-200k more at another hotel to be treated better. The pool also looks much bigger in the photos than it is. I still don't understand the other reviews. The owner and his son asked for a good review so many times that I wonder if people leave positive ones out of pity.

Wayan and the staff were really helpful and could arrange whatever we needed. We set up a snorkelling trip the night before and it all went smoothly. They can also pick you up from the ferry if you tell them when you're arriving. The pool was a great way to cool off after sightseeing, and scooters are available to rent there. I'd recommend Surya Maha if you're looking for a place on Nusa Penida. The banana pancakes at breakfast were delicious!

The team were so welcoming and helped us with everything we needed. The rooms were very big and clean, and the pool was awesome. The hotel was really nice. Thank you!

Pak Surya and his family made us feel at home, and went out of their way to help when we realized we'd forgotten an item. They helped us get it back without any fuss. Their hospitality is what really makes Surya Maha Bungallo special. The property was very clean, well maintained, and conveniently located as a base for exploring Nusa Penida. We booked a day tour through them and it was hassle-free, with wonderful guides for the island. Their ferry pickup and drop-off service was reliable and made the logistics easy. We can't wait to return, and would highly recommend staying here.
