My bicycle was kept safely inside overnight, which I appreciated. Mimi made me feel at home and even invited me to dinner. The bathroom is shared, but I had it to myself. There’s tea and coffee, plus two upstairs verandahs with a nice breeze and lovely views. After dinner, her son Miko invited me to a local coffee bar. I’d definitely stay more than one night if I come back to Painan.

The owners are good, but the place has a strong musty smell and no amenities. The parking is the worst part, and the location of building no. 2 was difficult to find. My car was damaged. The photos make it look like a five-star homestay, but I’d say maybe three stars. I wouldn’t pay more than Rp100,000 for it.

The room was an unusual attic-style balcony room, with a lovely view of the hills around Painan. The host was warm and friendly, and even let me use a motorbike to get around. I felt safe and comfortable at Bumimi Homestay. It was my first visit to Painan, and this homely place made my few nights in the city very comfortable. I’d choose it again if I return.

Mimi gave us a perfect stay over our two nights. There’s free water, tea, and coffee, and two balconies where you can sit and relax. She’s a very nice host who respects your privacy, while also being happy to have a fun chat.
