Surya Pesona Beach Hotel

The staff did help with our questions, but the rest of the stay was really disappointing. The bathroom had mold everywhere, there was a light in the room we couldn't switch off, and breakfast was pretty bad. As a European, I expected more from a place presented as a sort of luxury hotel. It was disgusting and definitely not worth the price.

The beds were good quality and the staff were really friendly and helpful, but almost everything else was awful. The place desperately needs renovation and is falling apart, with bugs throughout. Termites had eaten into the wood, the doors were warped and damaged, and the walls were crumbling. Cables and electrical fittings were scattered around, making it feel like a fire hazard. The toilet was broken, there was no hot water, and there was some mold. Mothballs were everywhere, leaving a stale smell, and we had cockroaches, rats, salamanders, and bed bugs for company. I might sound like I'm exaggerating, but I was here on vacation with a group of 24, and 12 people had already left the hotel.

The free Wi-Fi barely worked, though there was a cheap paid third-party option. The bathrooms could be cleaner, but the rooms themselves were clean and tidied daily. Air conditioning worked well, and the staff were trained to communicate in English, so non-Bahasa speakers needn't worry. For a low to moderate price, you get a lot: the hotel is just across the road from a beach that isn't commercialized, staff are friendly, there's hot water and a 24-hour restaurant, plus features like a conference room and swimming pool. Overall, I thought it was great.

The pool staff were really friendly, though I didn't see many other hotel staff around. Our balcony view wasn't anything special, and the hotel is too far from the main attraction. The rooms are dated and VERY NOISY when there's an event in the restaurant. It really needs an update.
