Bobocabin Patra Parapat Toba

The view was amazing and worth seeing once, but I wouldn’t return. There were lots of monkeys and cats around.

So far, everything has been good. Each room has an umbrella outside, and the power outlet works with international plugs. It would be nice if they offered free cancellation for a set period, either with a full refund or a partial one. Please don’t let guests cook in their rooms or pack too many people into one room. That makes others uncomfortable. It also leads to piles of food waste that cats and monkeys rummage through, and too much noise at night.

The cabin was clean and had what we needed, with a roomy terrace where we could eat and enjoy the view. Bobocabin Patra Parapat has a lovely outlook over the lake. Watch out for monkeys. More than 30 were out in the morning, crossing the hotel area, rummaging through the trash cans and leftover breakfast on the cabin terrace, and taking over the viewing deck. Some looked hostile enough that we didn’t dare get close. Keep food inside and shut the cabin door in the morning so they don’t come in.

The cabin’s tech and the gorgeous view help make up for the downsides. It’s a lovely, serene spot with cute modern cabins, unless there’s a party or family event on. Then the loudspeaker activities can be disturbing for a few hours. Getting here is difficult without a car. I grabbed a car from Medan airport, but arranging a ride out was a hassle. Grab doesn’t serve the area, so you have to arrange transport with the staff. When I left, I had to take a motorbike to the ferry terminal, which seems tricky if you have large luggage. The food was just so-so, and there’s nothing else to get unless you bring your own. Still, it’s a picture-perfect place for a retreat.
