Winstar Hotel

The lobby looked luxurious, but the room was dusty, very dark, and unclean, with a strong cigarette smell when we checked in at 10 pm. The towel quality was poor too. I hadn't expected the hotel to be this bad. They offered free breakfast to anyone who rated them five stars on Google, which felt like a tricky marketing tactic. The room cost only 200K, and that's the only reason I didn't give it one star. They really need to fix the rooms.

The staff at the counter tried to help, and everyone was friendly. Still, we had booked a special room online through Booking.com, but at check-in they gave us a different one, with its window facing a wall and no daylight. They said the other rooms weren't ready. After we complained, they showed us another room but called it an upgrade that would cost extra. We talked for a long time and saw several rooms before we finally got one with windows and daylight. It was a bit better, though it still didn't look like the room in my booking photo. For the price at this hotel, we couldn't complain too much. My only issue is having to accept an inferior room compared with the one shown. I wouldn't recommend booking breakfast.

The breakfast was just fine, and the bathroom was spacious and clean, though it had no exhaust fan. My standard room felt dim, with a smoky smell despite smoking being prohibited. The bed seemed old and there were a few dirty spots on the blanket. The area felt quiet and it was a little hard to find food nearby.

For a standard room at Rp. 190k, with a Traveloka voucher, I thought it was a decent place to sleep for the price. Ciputra Seraya and a few other malls are nearby, and the hangout spots and fast food along main Riau Street aren't too far. The AC worked well, and the TV had the main local channels. The hot water was only lukewarm, though. Fine for a budget traveller.
