Happy House BnB Bromo backpacker

The staff were friendly, and getting picked up at the train station worked well. It’s also well placed for the station and Bromo, with local warungs nearby serving cheap, tasty Indonesian food. There are great amenities, but we had no hot water in the shower, which wasn’t a big issue for us. It is a noisy place, though. The mosques can be heard for much of the day and night, people are coming and going all the time, and the rooms have no soundproofing.

The staff were warm, friendly, and helpful, which I really appreciated. But my dorm stay wasn’t comfortable. The bed felt shaky and flimsy, and the bathroom was very dirty, with stains that seemed to have been there for ages without proper cleaning. The place is close to a mosque, so expect to wake around 4AM for the prayer call if you’re a light sleeper.

The tour breakfast was the main letdown. After the trip they took us to a warung serving only 5-6 usual Indonesian lunch dishes, which didn’t feel like breakfast at all. It was still before noon, so a proper breakfast option would have been nice. We booked the Bromo tour through the hostel because they take cards. Some guides offered the same tour for less in cash, but we chose the convenience of paying by card even though it cost a bit more. The room was really nice, and the cozy kitchen made us feel at home. It was good to cook again after traveling for so long. The Wi-Fi was unstable and often didn’t work, and the power went out for several hours on one rainy day. Still, I’d return for the affordable price and the beauty of the place.

We booked the Bromo tour and airport transfer, and both went great. The amenities were clean and the design was pretty nice. Even with earplugs, the mosque woke us at 4 am. The water wasn’t very hot either, but that didn’t bother us.
