The diving centre onsite was well run, and the guys took care of everything so we could focus on diving. My guide, Wayan, was great at spotting obscure creatures on our muck dives. The hotel is on the main street, but at the quieter end, and the staff throughout were friendly. The garden was large and well kept, separating the two sides of bungalows. My sea-view room was spacious, furnished in typical Balinese style with lots of wood, and close to the beach. Check-in was quick and easy when I arrived in the early evening. Food from the hotel was good, though I like trying local eateries. The bungalows mainly run on solar panels, so don’t expect bright rooms or much power from the mains. The hotel is eco-conscious and apparently doesn’t spray the plants for mosquitoes, so I got bitten. I’ll come back, but I’ll bring mosquito spray.

The location is amazing, the stay is exceptional and the food is great quality. I’d stay again, though it doesn’t feel like five-star resort quality. The shower pressure is very low, and there’s no bar fridge in the room. Adding fridges so guests could keep drinks and food cold and fresh would be good.

Lunch was served on the lawn by the beach at Garam Cafe, which is part of the hotel. We had a look at the rooms too: very nice, clean and well appointed, though we didn’t stay. The food was a mixed bag. We shared Gado Gado, then had Olio Aglio with King Prawns and Sumatran Beef Curry. The spaghetti was aldente, the prawns beautifully cooked, and the beef was moist and tender. Banana Nuggets and Lemon Crepes for dessert were both a bit disappointing. The price seemed reasonable until the extras appeared. They added the standard 11% govt tax and an 11% service charge, higher than anywhere else we’d been, then another 3% to pay by card. We paid on visa- savings debit, NOT our Credit option, and still got charged 3%, though there should have been no card surcharge for this. The combined added charges were 25%, about 50k. In the end, it was just... ok, and we won’t be rushing back.

A really relaxing seaside stay at Hotel Uyah Amed. The rooms were spacious and clean, the saltwater pool was nice, and the staff were kind and helpful. Great snorkeling spots are only a short walk away.

Of the five hotels I stayed at in Bali, this was my favorite. The rooms were clean and it’s very close to the beach. The AC wasn’t the best, but it did work. The restaurant served delicious food and the service was great.
