Hotel Besar Purwokerto

We slept well and were happy with both rooms we stayed in. The hotel has three main buildings: the main compound, Opal rooms, and another building at the back. I first booked a deluxe room in the main compound. It was very spacious, even for three people, and the room had been refurbished while keeping most of its original design. The building has a strong Dutch influence. The wood panel door and windows had been changed, while the rest seemed original. The one small issue was the manual water heater, which made it hard to keep the temperature where I wanted it. The next day I moved to the Opal rooms in the side building. It looked neat and newly built, with a Mediterranean style. The room was smaller than the deluxe one, but its interior, bathroom, and amenities were an upgrade. The towels were a little thin, but for the price, nearly everything else was top notch, and the hotel staff were helpful. The location was superb. A legendary bread kiosk was within walking distance, and there was both an ATM and a cafe in the hotel complex. The food at the cafe was good. The hotel sits beside a main road, but noise was minimal, and it was easy to walk or order a ride share. Very recommended.

I really hate this hotel. The room and bathroom smelled, and the room was very dirty, with hair and other stuff around. There was a blood stain on the bedsheet and on the wall. While we were checking out, kids from hotel sanitary damaged our car in the hotel parking lot, and we saw it happen ourselves. The hotel refused to take any responsibility and only gave us useless small talk, without even apologizing. The staff just walked away from us, yes, literally walked away. Do not come here!

I paid a reasonable 550k for one night in the Opal room, which was spacious and modern. The problem was the heat. I set the AC to 19 with the fan on its highest setting, but the room stayed very hot, like the unit was broken or something. I think the hotel needs to check the AC in each room. Apart from that, it was a great stay.

The linens, mattress, and pillows were comfortable. Their new extension building also has a beautiful, aesthetic design.
