Madarana Hotel

This was one of the worst memories of my life. I checked in on June 25th 2017, and when my family and I woke up the next morning, June 26th, we discovered we’d been robbed. A pair of pants and a belt were taken, though the police later found them in the garden. We also lost a wallet with money, two checks, an ID card and other things, plus a guess watch and more. I only noticed that morning that the window in our room was broken, with a hole in it. What upset me most was the management’s response. They took no responsibility and didn’t apologize. The manager said, “It’s not our responsibility if you lost anything.” When we asked the hotel to report the theft to the police, he told us to report it ourselves. In the end, he asked one of his staff to accompany us to the police office because he had errands. WOWWW! Could you imagine that response? I was really disappointed. I later learned this was the second theft at that hotel. It still had no CCTV, even though it had been standing for a dozen years. I felt really unsafe. Let this be a lesson for all of us to be more careful next time.

The rooms have a nice traditional style, like a Toraja house, and breakfast is good. It’s a starting point for Tana Toraja excursions with a guide and driver. But the hotel’s main building is somewhat rotten and needs a lot of renovation. There’s no pool.

The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is wonderful. The hotel is nice, with really hot water in the room.
