Toraja Heritage Hotel

A decent hotel if you’re visiting Toraja, with good scenery and fresh air. It’s quite a distance from Lolai, Kete Kesu, To'tombi and other tourist spots. If you mainly want to see Tongkonan House, though, there are lots of Tongkonan house replicas at the Toraja Heritage Hotel. The hotel itself is good enough, but the design feels quite old.

The gardens are beautiful and well kept, and the rooms are large, with a gigantic bathroom. Still, the place seems to have seen better days many years ago. The reception made me think it had once been part of a French hotel chain before local entrepreneurs took over. Most things are badly neglected, though the rooms less so. The restaurant walls are disgusting, and the tablecloths are dirty and full of holes. Service there was incredibly slow, and the food was nowhere near good, tasty quality. Calling this a four-star hotel by international standards is a gross exaggeration. Three stars at most. Given all that, we got pretty poor value for our money. The current owners should start a comprehensive renovation as soon as possible.

The room and bathroom were both big. There’s an outdoor shower, with the bathtub and toilet in separate enclosed areas. Breakfast wasn’t the best, but it was okay. The hotel is a little way off the main street and its bumpy road, with a small kiosk nearby if you need to buy anything. Remember to shut the doors and windows, especially in the evening, if you don’t want mosquitoes getting into your room. The hotel was nice.

The hotel is about 1km from the main road and has a local Tongkonan house style. The room and bed were quite comfortable, and there’s a bathtub. The restaurant serves local food. It was good overall, but nothing special. I hope they add more modern technology and make the service more comfortable.
