Hotel Grand Kartika Samarinda

A good value spot to rest during a trip. There are two lifts, and the room was clean enough, though the bed cover and towel looked faded, maybe from long use. The shower got hot water going pretty quickly. I didn't see a baby chair in the restaurant, so you'll need to bring your own.

The room was fairly large and clean, but the service left me dissatisfied. I stayed three nights. At check-in I said I would be there for two nights, but when I came back on the second night, my key didn't work. Reception said it had only been updated for one night. I asked them to extend it for two more nights, yet the same problem happened again on night three. I then wanted to speak with management, but they didn't arrange that. The amenities also weren't replenished properly.

Right in central Samarinda, this hotel is handy given how limited local transport can be. Public services, a mall, banks, and the local market are all around it. The rooms are nice and clean, and the rates are average, on the cheap side.

For about 500000rp a night, it felt like a very good deal. It's a convenient place near the market and Samarinda's river port, with simple, clean rooms.
