Bromo Ecolodge

A nice little spot for a night near Bromo. The room is extremely small, basically just a bed and space for two backpacks, and the bathroom is tiny too. There are only seven menu choices, but the food is good.

The staff made us feel so welcome that it felt more like staying with family than at a hotel. They were happy to help with anything we asked, from arranging a Mount Bromo tour at fair prices to getting us nicer-than-usual transport to and from the train station. You can also rent a motorbike or a car. My fiancé and I stayed for two nights while visiting Bromo Mountain, and the rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable, if a little small. The WiFi was fast and reliable. They’re made from converted shipping containers, but the interiors are decorated so nicely you wouldn’t guess unless someone told you. Everything felt quite new for the area and was very well cared for. The food was delicious, and they were ready to prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner whenever we wanted. That stood out after other hotels in the area told us the kitchen was closed and there was no food available. We had a relaxing stay and I’d happily return.

If you’re on a budget and don’t mind a bare room, this is a decent stay. The rooms are basic but have a cosy feel, and hot water is a big plus when Bromo gets cold at night and in the early morning. We had a few power cuts, though the receptionist, who sits just outside the rooms, was quick to sort out any problems. Food options are limited. I also wouldn’t recommend the hotel’s massage service. It takes place in your room, and I found the massage light and cursory.

The place is built from containers, so space is limited. Comfort is okay for a stay of a day or less, and cleanliness was a strong point. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the Bromo starting point. The restaurant isn’t anything special, but breakfast was decent.
