Kopikuin Bromo

The room was spacious and clean, and the bedroom was quiet. The water temperature was just right. The problem was loud music that went on until about 1 am. We had to get up for a 3am tour and didn’t get enough sleep because of it. Breakfast was bread with egg, blueberry jam, and some bananas. I’m vegetarian, with no eggs, meat, or fish, so I asked for a fresh breakfast after they put egg on my bread. They just took the egg off the same piece and gave it back to me. I didn’t eat it.

The walls seemed really thin and didn’t block noise at all. We had a white noise machine and earplugs, which helped, but without them we might not have slept well, especially in the morning or during the day. Even with that, this has been my favorite accommodation on my Java trip so far. The room was spacious and very clean, the bathroom was lovely, and the shower got really hot. It’s about a 30 minute motorbike ride from Bromo. They rent motorbikes for 250000 per day, which felt quite expensive, though the bike was good quality. It’s a really lovely place to stay, and there’s a kitchen too.

Mr Renno looked after us during our one day stay at Kopikuin, and he was also our local guide for the Mount Bromo hike. He spoke English, shared stories about Mount Bromo, and made sure we were safe on the hike. My friend and I found the spacious room comfortable and really liked the homestay’s vibe.

The king size bed was comfortable, and the location works well for climbing Bromo. There’s no hot water in the showers, and breakfast was basic toast and egg. You can rent a decent coat for a good price. I left my birkinstocks outside the room while we were on the Bromo tour and came back to find only one. When I told staff, they said a dog must have taken it. I understand it wasn’t their fault, but their response fell short. They didn’t seem to care and just smiled as if I were joking. A warning about not leaving things outside would have helped. They could also have shown some consideration and tried to do something about the missing item, instead of leaving me to deal with it and wait until I left.
