Alassari Plantation

We had a relaxing weekend at Alassari, with an early swim beside that spectacular view. We also wandered around the property. Even our younger child, who usually isn’t keen on walking, made it a short way to the bridge. The service and people were great, and we had a lovely time there with our two kids, ages 9 and 11. 😅👌🏾

The only thing that bothered me was the flickering light from some of the lamps and chandeliers in the rooms. I understand they may be doing some refurbishing in the future. I’d still happily stay here again and again. I didn’t get down to the bridge or pools, though I’ve heard they’re amazing, so that’s on my list for next time. The setting is divine, with gorgeous views and gardens full of giant ferns. The carved wooden house has a wraparound balcony that’s lovely for listening to the rain, birdsong, and river below, or watching clouds change shape on the horizon. The menu is simple mountain food, and the kitchen team does a solid job.

The calm here is hard to put into words. We came for a brief romantic getaway, but it became something much more meaningful. There were little flowers waiting in our room, and staff remembered our names, which made us feel genuinely cared for. The spa treatment was heavenly, and the cool forest air at night helped us get the best sleep ever. It felt like an experience, not just a place to stay.

The staff are wonderful, and they’re all local. There’s a lovely pool and a walking trail through the coffee plantation that ends at a river pool with crystal-clear water from Batu Karu mountain. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, well suited to a retreat, some quiet time, or working on a creative project. I first started coming here regularly more than a year ago, and now I live next door. It’s an amazing place.
