Surya Boutique Hotel

For the price, Surya Boutique is hard to beat. I got in at 4 am after arriving by train and only needed a few hours of sleep before a 10 am meeting. It’s close to Tawang Train Station, which made that easy. The room felt quite old, but the towels, sheets, and pillow were clean. Breakfast was a simple buffet with limited choices, though enough to get my day started. I’d recommend it if you reach Semarang early in the morning by train.

The location worked well for me, close to the train station and old town, and the staff were kind and helpful. I stayed six nights in a suite after first booking a family room because I wanted a bath. The floor in that room was a little dirty, so I mentioned it and they moved me to a suite, which was somewhat cleaner. Wi-Fi was okay but not very fast, and the hot water sometimes stopped working.

Had a great time here. Syifa handled things really well, and the staff were very good 👍🏻

The rooms are a good size, and the ground-floor ones stay cool and quiet. There’s no fridge or kettle in the room, but the staff will help with hot or cold drinks whenever you need them. The central amenities are lovely, including a pond with fun fish to watch. Staff are great, and many speak good English.
