Batu Bolong Cottages

The outside looked acceptable, but going into the room was a terrible surprise. It was extremely dirty. My friend was sick all night because of the dust on the floor and windows. The bathroom was worst of all, with fungus on the floor, dusty ventilation, and spiderwebs. We had to find another hotel for our second night. We also sent some clothes out to be washed. They came back in a bag completely damp, with some still wet, and the musty smell had already got into them. We went back to ask for our money, but got nothing back, so we had to pay to wash everything again somewhere else. It’s too bad, because the man seemed like a good person, but in the end he wasn’t honest.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and we’d certainly stay again. There are only a few breakfast choices and not much fruit, though that seems to be because it’s low season and very quiet. We were the only other couple among the eight ocean-side cottages. There are garden cottages across the road. Our cottage was comfortable, with hot water, a working fridge, and it was clean. The bed is hard, but you get used to it. We had to switch cottages because the AC in ours wouldn’t cool, but the one we moved to works. The pool stays warm in the sun all day. The old sun loungers still work, though they’re out in the sun. The two gazebos on the corners are okay. Tables and chairs by the ocean are mostly in the sun, so you have to chase the shade. A few umbrellas would help. It’s not five-star, but definitely four.

The sea view room deserves 4 stars. The garden view room gets 1.
