Hotel NEO + Waru-Sidoarjo

The room was so hot when I arrived because the AC is off when nobody’s there. Even after it had been running for hours, it never cooled the room properly, and I woke up every hour from the heat. The drink cooler couldn’t be adjusted and didn’t keep drinks or food cold. The elevator and hallways also had a bad smell and no air conditioning. The rest of the hotel seemed poorly maintained, even though the lobby looked clean and nice. Staff were pleasant and gave good service, but I didn’t have a good stay and felt misled by the other reviews. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, and the only two towels smelled bad and looked stained. The fixtures were rusty and had mineral buildup. A sign said the water wasn’t potable, so I used bottled water to brush my teeth. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and near convenience stores and a shopping center, though it’s far from central Surabaya. I regret staying here because I couldn’t get proper rest.

The room noise was the main problem during my four-night transit stay in early 2026, while traveling from Bali to Jakarta and spending time in Surabaya. I could hear neighbors talking or on the phone because the soundproofing wasn’t very good. During cleaning, water accidentally splashed onto my blood pressure monitor. The staff apologized quickly, and management took responsibility and replaced it. Service was friendly and fast. I hope they improve the room acoustics, since the noise can be quite disturbing. We had a pleasant stay, and the breakfast buffet had a good selection. I paid around 400k per room per night with breakfast, and an extra breakfast was 100k per person. The butter was good, though the jams were artificial. The bathroom was the letdown: it floods easily, water doesn’t drain where it should, and we ended up with a puddle inside the room. The hotel is near the highway toll gate, which was convenient. They also arranged connecting rooms for us, something budget hotels rarely have. Having Excelso on the first floor won me over right away.

The room had enough space for two, and check-in service was very nice. There’s a coffee shop between the parking area and reception. It’s very close to Juanda International Airport and the toll road gate, and I got a better price by booking through their website.
