Grand Orchid Hotel Yogyakarta

I wish I could give five stars for the friendly staff who tried to help, but the neighbors were extremely noisy, talking loudly and playing around. At 6 am I called reception, but nobody answered. There was no response on the 10th floor either. It felt more like a playground than a hotel, so it was hard to rest.

On my first day in Indonesia, I stayed here and had a great time. The room was clean, and it had all the toiletries I needed. The hotel feels grand, sits right on the main road, and has parking too.

The room felt damp and stuffy, and the air seemed dusty. It also seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. There was a strange noise from another room, which I think may have been the water pump. Service was okay for the low price, though anyone can go to any floor without needing access.

The location worked out, though Gojek wouldn't let us order here and Grab worked fine. I stayed a night with my college class for field practice, and the room setup was ordinary for a three-star hotel. It had mineral water, a kettle, coffee and tea, slippers, towels, a bath mat, and toiletries, so the basic supplies were covered. The room itself was another matter. My roommate and I had to wait about ten minutes outside while it was being cleaned. A pile of pillows was left beside the room and was still there when we checked out. The bathroom smelled as if someone had peed on the floor and it hadn't been cleaned, so I rinsed it myself. Under the sink, the table looked like it had been smashed with a hammer to make room for the basin, and cement dust was still there. The window frame was dusty too, which is concerning for anyone with a dust allergy. The bedsheet looked unironed, and the water strainer from the heater looked worrying. It was also hard to get a warm bath. Adjusting the heater took patience, and the middle setting was already hot, so be careful. I didn't deal much with the staff, just when we first arrived and when I tried to order food from the hotel. Classmates said staff checked their rooms several times because they thought they'd brought food in. We did arrive with rice boxes, but once we learned outside food wasn't allowed in the rooms, we ate in the cafe area. They even counted rice boxes in the trash to make sure people had eaten outside, despite there being about 116 of us and not everyone bringing a box. That felt unbelievable.
