City Homestay

If you're here for a visa extension, it's handy that you can walk to the immigration office. The staff are nice and helpful if you know a little Indonesian. You can message them directly on WhatsApp and pay cash when you arrive, since their online booking system may not work. For 150k, the cheapest room was the least expensive option I found in town, and you get what you pay for. The 300k room wasn't worth it to me, and there may be better choices in Sorong at that price. It's a basic, functional place with little comfort. The walls are marked, and though the sheets are clean, some stains on them look old. There may be the odd cockroach or ants. The fan or AC works, as do the lights and electricity. There's also a small kitchen with drinking water and coffee.

There isn't much included, but it's a handy place to stay for a few days between trips. Rates are fairly low, and you can check out very late without an extra charge if you talk to the owner. Most rooms have AC, while some cheaper ones have fans. Hot drinking water is in the kitchen for making tea or coffee whenever you like. Breakfast is provided there too, though it's just a small selection of traditional cakes. A shopping mall is about a 10-minute walk away.

The street outside is quiet and dark at night. If you're walking to the shops, about 10 minutes away, go before it gets dark. A one-way ojek to DEO airport costs 20,000 rupiah and takes around 15-20 minutes. I had a spacious fan room without AC for one night and slept and unpacked comfortably. The shared bathroom is outside, clean enough, with a nice shower head, and the doorman was polite and kind. Bring your own disinfectant spray, especially during a pandemic. You can get a cheaper rate by walking in, with the updated phone number shown in the photo, though booking in advance through travel*ka is convenient. Very affordable and decent for a night or two before heading to DEO airport.

The street by this homestay is very dark, with no lamp posts, so don't walk there at night. It's also hard to find food nearby, with no amenities close by, and the place floods when it rains. The shared toilet was very smelly and dirty, and only a few rooms have their own. My room was tiny, dirty and had no table. Watch out for mosquitoes. For a homestay this dirty, it was very expensive compared with others.
