Pondok Manis Homestay

I came on my own and first ran into Warren and his wife at a little supermarket. We had a good chat, and he invited me to visit their villa and homestay the next day. I felt at home almost as soon as I arrived, thanks to him and his very friendly family. The room was great, and the mattress was the best I had in Bali, maybe the best I've ever slept on. Warren knows a lot about Bali and its wildlife, and he's an expert on the jungle. We went on an amazing scooter trip along tracks that he and the locals know. It was the best day I had there. The natural setting made our stay memorable, and Warren and his family were warm hosts. They were generous, helpful, and made us feel welcome. Our accommodation was clean and neat. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to experience Bali's nature with a genuine host family.

The waterfall nearby is spectacular. If you're as into waterfalls as I am, leave two days to enjoy it and splash around. The surrounding area is beautiful too, though you'll want a scooter to get around freely, as you do across much of Bali. This friendly family made the stay comfortable and flexible. I arrived very late and the owner still invited me for tea; we had a long conversation, and he helped with various things, answered questions, and offered advice. It's a great choice for anyone wanting to get off the usual tourist route.

Warren and his sons took me into the nearby jungle and local village, introducing me to people and showing me a side of Indonesia many visitors don't get to see. His wife, Narul, cooked wonderfully and was so kind. My own room was separate from the main house, and I slept like a baby beside the rushing river. Warren knows a great deal about local plants and people. I felt incredibly welcome and want to return for a longer stay as soon as I can. I'd highly recommend Pondok Manis. I came to Indonesia on a two week trip with friends, but went to the homestay alone after my dad suggested it, hoping to escape Bali's bustle and experience something different. When I arrived, I was struck by how fluently Warren spoke with my driver. It was clear he cared about the country and its culture. I stayed two nights and only wished I had more time.
