The host was friendly and accommodating, and speaks Japanese well. The price is affordable, Bali Zoo is close, and there’s a supermarket within 700m. A small kitchen is available with a gas stove and electric kettle, plus a bathroom, mirror, desk, and other useful facilities. Drinking water was provided at check-in. There’s also a terrace with chairs facing the jungle garden, and you can hear gamelan music nearby. It’s a garden-like jungle setting, which could be a plus if you enjoy nature. The property seems dated, perhaps around 80 years old, and looks a bit like an abandoned jungle house. There were cobwebs near the roof, dirty chairs, dusty areas around the air conditioner, and pillows with mold, including inside one pillow. Bugs are to be expected in Southeast Asia, and there were many mosquitoes, so keep the doors and windows closed in the evening. The atmosphere is pleasant and the location convenient, making it a good budget option. Even with modest expectations, though, cleanliness could be better for comfort. A thorough clean of the whole property, including wiping surfaces and using bleach on the linens, would improve the stay.
The only real positive for me was that the owners or managers were kind and friendly. Our room was at the back, far from the entrance, surrounded by woods without the nice view you might hope for. It was cheap, but I wasn’t prepared for what we found. The room felt moldy, moist, and damp as soon as we entered. The walls were cracking in several places. The bathroom, including the tub, was basically unusable. There was no holder for the toilet sprayer, so we had to leave it on the floor. I don’t know why other people’s photos look good, or if ours was the only room like this. The room seemed to have been swept for only a few minutes. Getting to it meant a long, difficult walk along a path, and we had to carry our own suitcases. There was a small kitchen with unwashed dishes we hadn’t used, and the provided water tasted strange, so I seriously doubted it was hygienic. Although it’s close to Bali zoo, the walk from our room to the lodge’s front gate was far and uphill. The lodge is on a small road, so we still had to walk to the main road, probably adding about 100m. From the first day, we found mosquitoes, lizards, and flies in the room. Frogs also came in from somewhere, which was horrifying, along with other insects I couldn’t identify.
Daton house is simple and authentic, and I’m so glad I stayed there with Sunatra and her family. They were warm and welcoming, and I’d happily return. You can hear geckos and cicadas singing around the place. They encouraged me to explore nearby: Gala silver's beautiful homemade silver jewelry, the local market, a reptile park, and Balinese dance shows in the morning or evening depending on the dance, including Kecak and fire dance. Ubud is not far away. Thank you for the welcome and your smiles. I hope to see you again 🌺🙏❣️
Great value for the money. The room is spacious and clean, with a bathtub and hot shower, all at an affordable price. That was plenty for me.
Could you share your WhatsApp number, pak Yan? I stayed there and still have my things at your store.
