Super OYO Capital O 92633 Spring Hotel Gubeng

The receptionists often inflate prices and pocket the difference themselves. Zero-star service from reception.

The owner was kind, and the room facilities were good. Still, this wasn't a good place for our holiday in Surabaya, especially with family. The building is shared with a nightclub next door, and I was a little taken aback by the many night workers and their guests staying here. The toilet for using the bathroom is outside the room; inside there's only a shower.

The room was reasonably clean, but the service at OYO Spring Surabaya was the most disappointing I've had in years of traveling around Indonesia and staying everywhere from OYO to Red Door, in hotels rated from 1 to 5 stars. Staff were terrible and didn't seem to have basic hospitality skills. Cheap prices aren't a reason to sacrifice service and damage the owner's reputation or business. I hope the owner improves staff training or is more selective when hiring. If service is still like this, think twice before staying.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful when I was exhausted, so that earns the one star. The rest of the stay had me close to throwing a tantrum, though I couldn't bring myself to, and ended up looking at reviews online instead. The building and reception look nice, but the room was awful. It was meant to be non-smoking, yet there were cigarette butts and ash everywhere, with a strong smoke smell. The room was damp and hard to breathe in. The sheets and glass were dirty, and the floor was padded. The TV didn't work, though the AC did and was cold. The en-suite bathroom had a Jacuzzi bathtub that didn't work. The shower worked, but only gave cold water. There was no toilet. Instead, there was a very dirty urinal covered in urine, with NO PARTITION BETWEEN THE URINO, BATHUB, AND THE BED. The stairs were dirty too, with cigarette butts all over them. I couldn't bear to go back out, so I didn't take photos. There aren't any shops or other places nearby, and the streetlights are out. I hope the hotel owner makes a real effort to improve the quality of the hotel.
