The room’s really basic, with very few features. There’s a TV, but I couldn’t watch it because there was no antenna cable. The bathroom is simple too, with no mirror, though it does have plenty of hangers and a capstock. The water is all cool, which is fine in hot Surabaya. The real problem was the AC. It’s only half a PK for such a wide room, and even setting it to 17 degrees didn’t cool the place down. I couldn’t sleep properly because it was too hot.

The staff were warm and welcoming, and the building feels fairly new and modern. I stayed two nights at Surabaya Homey near UNAIR Syariah. It was surprisingly quiet even with rooms close together, and the security seemed good, with CCTV and a gate open 24 hours. The price also seemed fair for what’s provided. There are some room issues: the AC in room 10 wouldn’t get cold even after I tried adjusting it, and may need servicing. The bathroom door handle was missing, and the shower was loose and wouldn’t stay upright. Towels, shampoo, and toothpaste weren’t supplied, so bring your own. The place is down an alley. If you arrive after 10 PM, one alley is closed and you’ll need to use another route. Still, it’s worth considering for a budget stay if you’re okay with those small hassles. Better room upkeep would make it even nicer.

The kitchen is available to use, and everything else was fine. It’s hard to reach many restaurants on foot from the homestay. A larger sign out front would also make the place easier to find.
