Aston Karimun City Hotel

Breakfast was good, and my room was spacious and very clean. It’s the only 4-star hotel on Karimun Island.

The gym could use some work. Two of the running machines are old and unstable. Breakfast also needs improvement, especially some training on frying and serving eggs properly. The rest was quite good: the hotel is improving, the service was good, and it was fairly clean. The food was okay for Western tourists too. A big thank you to all the staff.

The renovated rooms look nice, but mine had a musty smell. And getting around the hotel took ages, since there’s only one service lift and it runs extremely slowly. The worst part was the front desk service. I asked for extra towels and a floor mat, and got questioned about why I needed them. They don’t provide hand or face towels, so I thought the request was pretty standard. After waiting 30 minutes to an hour, only the mat arrived. I called again about the towels and was told to wait. Another half hour went by with nothing, so I went down because I had to leave soon and asked what was taking so long. The staff member walked away, got into the lift in front of me, and disappeared without a word. I was left there to ask someone else for help. He casually asked what I was there for, even though I’d already explained it several times, then just told me to follow the other guy. That was the same staff member who had questioned my towel request. On my second night, my key card didn’t work when I got back to the room. It clearly hadn’t been activated properly. I expected better from Aston Karimun, especially after staying at many hotels in Karimun. The lack of professionalism, poor service, and operational problems made this a huge disappointment. I hope management looks into it, because this is unacceptable.

I won’t be coming back. On 7 June 2025, three people followed me from the lobby toward the elevators, then down the hallway near my room. Their behavior seemed suspicious, and I felt really unsafe. I tried to alert the hotel staff, but they brushed it off. Nobody acted straight away to protect me or look into what happened. Later, my father asked to see the CCTV footage from the camera outside my room. Staff said the CCTV wasn’t working. That left me feeling unsupported and deeply disappointed. A hotel’s premises should feel secure, and I expected more concern from the front desk, visible security staff, or working surveillance. I’d urge other travelers to think twice, especially if safety and peace of mind matter to them. I rarely write negative reviews, but this felt important to share.
